Nomads of the Seas Live-Aboard Fly Fishing Chile

Nomads of the Seas Chile by Rachel Andras
It was truly incredible to be aboard the Atmosphere a 150 – foot vessel with jet boats and a Bell 407 Helicopter at the ready. The scenery was amazing, waking each morning to new vistas of snow capped mountains surrounded by dense native forest.  The excitement on board was overwhelming for us anglers who were about to embark on a flight or boat ride to what seemed to be our ‘own waters’.  Though I felt like it was a little early in the season, the fishing was good.  My favorite day was drifting a small tributary, hammering out casts to fishy structure for big browns.  We drifted until we could not go any further and then I walked beyond the boat boundaries to hit even fresher water.  The browns were solid and eager to eat my streamer.  On the way home we saw sea lions and penguins… what a day!

The Nomads staff was also impressive, Carlos, Matisse, Oswaldo, Juanito, and Ricardo were talented fishing guides with wonderful enthusiasm – they were fully dedicated to the fishing program.  Nomads of the Seas offered exceptional food and wine in additional to the most comfortable boat based accommodations I have experienced.  Having visited the operation early in the first season, I felt that the logistics were still in need of some fine-tuning, and from the reports that I am hearing from others that have followed, it looks like things are shaping up well.

It was truly a wonderful way to see the magical coastline of Chile.  If you want a unique fishing experience, offer something special for your non-angling companion, and are not so concerned with the price tag, this trip is for you.
