Playa Blanca Lodge

Mexico

Located on a ten mile long white sand beach on a small private island in the heart of the Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve just south of Ascension Bay Mexico, Playa Blanca is uniquely situated to access the fertile and seldom fished waters of the Bahia Del Espiritu Santo. The fishery centers on sight fly fishing for bonefish, permit, and juvenile tarpon but snook, snapper, jacks and barracuda are also present. Much of the fly fishing is done from 16ft Dolphin Skiffs but wade fishing is also common. Catch and release fly fishing is practiced for all of the primary species. Playa Blanca also offers numerous activities for non-anglers including guided snorkeling, sea kayaking, bird watching, Mayan ruins, bicycling and windsurfing.

Location:
Playa Blanca is south of Ascension Bay and north of Chetumal Bay on Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula.

Fisheries:
At Playa Blanca you have access to one of saltwater fly fishing's most spectacular frontiers, Espiritu Santo Bay. Playa Blanca guides can lay claim to the fact that they were the first to regularly fly fish, explore and learn this bay.
Espirtiu Santo Bay is loaded with bonefish, permit and tarpon. Some other species anglers might try their skill with are snook, jacks, snapper, triggerfish and BIG barracuda. Laguna Santa Rosa is famous for its’ year-round juvenile tarpon population as well as some excellent bonefishing and occassionally some great snook fishing. The Caribbean surf offers up a variety of fly fishing opportunities, best of which might be fishing for GIANT barracuda. How big is a GIANT barracuda? We think 50+ inch Barracuda would qualify.

Non-Angling Activities:
Playa Blanca offers numerous activities for non-anglers including guided snorkeling, sea kayaking, bird watching, guided Mayan ruins tours, bicycling and windsurfing. Anglers and non-anglers may also enjoy a professional massage during their stay as well.

Accommodations and Meals:
Playa Blanca has a number of duplex suites all with verandas, large baths, and ceiling fans. Two rooms (room 6 & 7) now have air conditioning. About 300 yards down the beach are Casa Redonda and the Suite available only with advance notice. The Suite is a lovely and spacious bedroom and luxurious bathroom complete with double sinks and a huge tub overlooking the beach. The private porch offers a relaxing and an enjoyable space to enjoy the gorgeous view and the ocean breeze. The suite has 24 hour solar powered electricity for the all night ceiling fans. The Casa Redondo is a beautiful two bedroom cabana with a comfortable living room and small kitchenette. Guests can take bicycle rides or opt for a truck ride back to the main lodge.
