Located on a white sand beach 90 miles south of Cancun, Pesca Maya Lodge is a casual favorite for serious anglers in search of Ascension Bay’s best fly fishing. Here bonefish, permit, tarpon, snook and barracuda cruise an endless array of crystal clear flats, mangrove lagoons, channels, and reefs. Anglers fly fish two per panga under the watchful eye of both a senior and junior fly fishing guide, maximizing their chances from the boat and while wading. Additionally, Pesca Maya is one of the only fly fishing lodges in the region that operates year-round. For some of our most seasoned permit hunting clientele, this represents the opportunity for well rested fish in the off season months of August and September when all the other lodges have closed their doors.
Pesca Maya offers ten air conditioned rooms all with private baths and some with ocean views. There is also an ocean front terrace for relaxing and enjoying pre-dinner appetizers. Meals are home-style, with breakfast buffet and box lunches for anglers. For non-anglers, the chef will prepare a traditional Mexican lunch at the lodge. The lodge features its own fly shop, 15 boats with some of the region’s best Yucatan fly fishing guides as well as a beautiful beach where you can relax while not fishing. Stays of varying lengths are welcome and shuttles from the greater Cancun region can be arranged for anglers wanting to slip away from the bustle of the northern resorts for a few days of quality flats fishing. Soulful, simple and fairly priced, Pesca Maya is a Fly Water favorite for our seasoned permit hunters and first time saltwater anglers alike.
Pesca Maya Lodge is located on the outskirts of Punta Allen, Mexico on the north shore of Ascension Bay.
Ascension Bay is only 90 miles south of Cancun, Mexico, and offers endless crystal clear flats, mangrove lagoons, channels, reefs, where bonefish, permit, tarpon, snook, barracuda, jacks and others swim. Located within the Sian Ka’an biosphere reserve, Pesca Maya Lodge offers year round fly fishing possibilities for bonefish, permit, and jacks. Tarpon season runs from April through October and snook season is from November through March. The Sian Ka'an Preserve is home to more than 345 species of birds, including over one million wintering migratory song birds.
Anglers access the fishing areas on traditional Mexican Pangas with two guides on every boat (one senior guide and one junior guide). While the vast majority of the fly fishing is done from the boat there are also opportunities to wade fish for bonefish and permit.
