Nomads of the Seas Live-Aboard

Chile

Very rarely are we presented with an experience so unique that we stumble in describing it. This is one. At its core is a 150ft. state of the art mothership built exclusively to explore the boundless wilderness of Southern Chile’s largely unexplored fjords. Equipped with a Bell 407 helicopter, and 6 custom jet boats, their mission is to experience the fly fishing bounty and ecological wonders of Chile’s most remote reaches by air, land and sea.

With 32 crew members dedicated to serving 18 anglers and 10 non-anglers, this operation provides the highest level of service and employs the latest and safest technology to access regions that have rarely if ever seen a human, let alone a guided angler. And while the term extreme fly fishing has been used liberally in the past, Nomads of the Seas is here to deliver exactly that.

Designed with luxury in mind, guests enjoy world class cuisine, daily wine tasting, complete spa service and double occupancy cabins with exterior views and private baths. While fly fishing is a major focus, soft adventures including hiking, whale watching, birding and nature photography are all approached with the same eye for quality. Be among the first to experience the virgin coastline of Chile in an angling and eco-adventure that promises to be in a class by itself.

Nomads of the Seas program offers the perfect tools to experience the fjords and coastline of Chile for both anglers and non-anglers while sharing the Chilean culture on board.

Location:
Nomads of the Seas originates in Puerto Montt and sails south within the fjords of Chile as far south as Puyuhuapi.

Fishing Program:
The fly fishing guides speak English and are highly trained in fly fishing techniques as well as safety. The expedition manager reviews the day´s activities in advance and makes adjustments to the next day’s schedule accordingly. Anglers will have the opportunity to fly fish with a variety of different guides throughout the course of the week. Please speak with the expedition manager on board to discuss your fishing requests.

Nomads of the Seas relies on its cutting edge aero-maritime transport system consisting of a Bell 407 helicopter, 6 jet-boats, a Hurricane 920 RIB zodiac, and other lesser watercrafts such as zodiacs and catacrafts. Meanwhile, 36 McKenzie boats and 12 jetskiffs are placed in strategic spots of Patagonia, readily available for fly fishing trips in deeper territory. This equipment allows anglers to explore the most secluded rivers, lagoons and mountains, some of them lying untouched and unseen, waiting to be discovered. Depending upon weather conditions anglers may have the helicopter for fly fishing most days.

Please note that the helicopter is not for exclusive use by the guests. The helicopter is used during the day to scout new areas, transport watercrafts, and provide other operational tasks needed in order to be always improving the guest experiences. The helicopter is considered to be a tool that transports guests to the best fly fishing spots in the expedition area. These excursions have a scheduled drop-off and pick-up time, and any extra requests shall be attended to according to availability and extra costs. Any extra operational costs shall be billed to the guest that requested the service.

An angler could find during this trip: rainbow trout, brown trout, brook trout, steelhead trout, sea run brown trout, land-locked salmon and Chinook. Please keep in mind that the quality of the catch not only depends on climate conditions and personal talent, but on air pressure, temperature, moon and general water conditions.

Guests will have the opportunity to fish a nice diversity of waters including rivers, lakes or lagoons. The guides pay close attention to determine the number of anglers in each location while considering fishing techniques and sustainability of fishery. The expedition is designed to take you to unreached areas, so fishing is done quite privately. When the weather is poor and rivers are not fishable anglers typically explore options in lakes and lagoons.

Wildlife Adventure Program:
The ecotourism guides are top notch. Most are biologists who have conducted research in the area and are experienced for spotting cetaceans, birds and other species. Many of the excursions are in the rich rainforest along the coast. In this environment guests can see unusual plants, birds and geographical features. Occasionally, the guides will take guests on an excursion to a nearby local site, hot spring or small village depending on the location of the ship.

Among the many activities available for the ecotourism excursion are whale watching, dolphin watching, bird watching, nature photography, and soft outdoor adventures such as trekking, kayaking, jetboating, rafting and horseback riding. These activities are carried out with all the safety measures applicable and in breathtaking surroundings that only the exquisite nature of the Patagonia can provide. However, please note that all these excursions are subject to climate and atmosphere conditions.

For these excursions the Zodiac Hurricane 920 RIB is available, which is a specialized watercraft designed to successfully navigate all sea and weather conditions. The RIB is the main means of transportation for this trip and it is perfect for exploring the coasts for sea birds, whales, dolphins and more. This watercraft was conceived for military operations and is equipped with all safety and maneuvering elements to juggle trying circumstances. Each seat was built with an independent shock absorption system to ensure a pleasant and safe navigation.

The wildlife adventure guests could use the helicopter from two to three times a week (weather dependent).

The Region:
With over 250 million acres of impressive geography, Patagonia still remains as one of the rare corners on the planet yet to be discovered, keeping its invaluable treasures and exquisite biodiversity for the few who venture to discover and appreciate them.
This voyage to the central-southern and southern areas of Chilean Patagonia covers over 1,111 kilometers/600 nautical miles from the bay of Puerto Montt (latitude 41°S and longitude 72°W) to the Taitao peninsula (latitude 46°S and longitude 73°W).
This unique journey through the hidden Patagonia area enlightens you with multiple streams, creeks, glaciers, volcanoes, jungle forests, rivers, lagoons and lakes; endless and unexplored spots yet to be discovered in this geological mosaic. This gifted land offers a superb combination of blending glaciers, snowcapped peaks, summits and volcanoes of the southern Andes with luxuriant cold jungle forest.
Puerto Montt Nomads Guest House:
The Nomads Guest House is located in the Puerto Montt marina. It is a comfortable and
spacious building constructed only with native woods, mainly larch which is famous for its beauty and humidity resistant properties. It has fully equipped bathrooms and showers for any freshening up you may want to do before embarking the Atmosphere. There will be snacks and a lunch buffet available for all arriving passengers. Orientation On Board the Atmosphere:
An introductory meeting will take place at 4:00PM. This is meant to acquaint guests with all the necessary information about the ship and the trip. This is a must as safety procedures are explained during this time. The Atmosphere is scheduled to set sail at 6:00PM, so the boarding process will begin at about 5:30PM.

Once you arrive at the marina in Puerto Montt your luggage shall be transported by the crew to your cabin in the ship. When you are on board the Atmosphere, you will be asked to sign a release of liability form that is necessary for all trips. This document is very important and must be read and signed before the departure. After this process has finished the guides will be introduced to you and they will take you on a tour around the ship so that all areas can be immediately identified by you.

The return time to Puerto Montt on the last day of your trip is scheduled at about 9:00AM. Passengers disembark after breakfast. The staff escorts you to the airport or local hotel and helps you check-in. If you have a later departure you may stay in the Guest House until it is time to go to the airport.

Accommodations and Meals:
Each cabin has a private bathroom equipped with hair dryers, air conditioning and heat controls, safe deposit box, electricity plugs, as well as storage in drawers and under the bed. Each room has panoramic windows to enjoy the breathtaking sites that will be visited. Please use the safe deposit box to store your valuables while on board since Nomads of the Seas does not take responsibility for the loss of money, traveler’s checks, jewelry or any other personal valuables. There are 10 deluxe twin cabins (2 twin beds in each room) and 2 deluxe king (one king bed) cabins located on the second deck. The premium king (one king bed) cabins are located on the fourth deck and offer more privacy for guests.

There is a spacious and comfortable combination lounge, dining room and bar area on the boat deck where most of your socializing meals are taken. The setting is casual. In this area no shoes are allowed. You can find books, DVD’s and music to complement your stay in the lounge.

A wet room is available where you can leave your gear to dry out after an intense day of excursions. The wet room is where everyone will meet every day to gear up for the trips. It would be best to label your clothes if you plan to leave them in this room.

On the top deck there are four one-person thalassotherapy (sea-water) hot tubs, one two-person hot tub, a sauna and a shower all available to help you relax after a day of excursions. These tubs shall be ready once you get back from your trips. The ship also has a masseuse on board that is available for optional treatments (not included). Please make arrangements with the head concierge on board for these treatments as they have an additional cost.

On board the Atmosphere there is a no shoes policy. Nomads supplies antiskid socks and slippers which are available in your cabins. We recommend bringing some non-soled slippers (aka Crocs) or thick socks to wear in the common areas, just in case.

The Nomads Patagonian adventure acquires an entire new meaning aboard Atmosphere with the delicious culinary varieties, refined Chilean wine tastings and the joy of newfound friendships in beautiful surroundings.

Nomads` gastronomy is one of the many treats passengers can experience on board. It is the gateway to a unique and yet unexplored gastronomy: Patagonian cuisine. Its distinctive feature is the wide variety of native ingredients found in the southern part of Chile and used in traditional Chilean preparations. Its repertoire includes fish such as salmon, grouper and hake; among shellfish are abalone, sea urchin, krill and king crab. Red meats include lamb, beef and also a few game birds.

Patagonian food preparations will be presented in frequent gourmet events throughout the journey aboard Atmosphere, all accompanied with special Chilean wines carefully selected for each course by our sommelier, including some varieties hard to find in the market. After savoring each gastronomic adventure take some time off to enjoy a wide variety of cigars that can be found on board and exquisite drinks carefully prepared by our bar tenders.

Sample Daily Itinerary:
Each day aboard the Atmosphere is unique and different. The specific programs are defined between 12 and 24 hours in advance, so that fishing and wildlife expeditions can take into account immediate climatic conditions and other relevant factors such as cetacean location, fish behavior and tides, among others. Day by day, routes are studied and defined so there is no such a specific track, tailored in order to provide the very best experience.

Breakfast is served everyday between 7:30 and 8:30AM in the morning. Excursions depart between 9:00 and 10:00AM, depending on their specific requirements and means of transportation. On each excursion passengers will be served an on-site gourmet packed lunch. After the excursions guests return to the ship between 6:00 and 7:30PM, after that, Nomads travelers will have time to enjoy the thalassotherapy treatment hot tubs, sauna and massage service. Cocktails start being served at 7:00PM in the passengers lounge. At this moment you may relax, share your day and sample some delicious appetizers. Dinner is served at 8:30PM. At this time passengers can experience exquisite cuisine with exclusive local dishes. After dinner you can enjoy a slide show where you’ll be able to see every day’s best picture shots and share experiences with the other guests.
