Newhalen Lodge
Alaska
Newhalen Lodge offers arguably the finest fly out fly fishing Alaska has to offer. While their fly fishing program centers around the rainbow fishery of the greater Iliamna drainage, guests also have ample opportunity to fly fish for arctic char, Dolly Varden, grayling, and all five species of Pacific salmon (though rarely are all species available during any single week). The lodge strives to have one guide for every two anglers and typically jet powered aluminum John boats are used for transportation on the various systems. At times anglers will fly fish from the boats, but the majority of fly fishing is done while wading.
Location:
Newhalen Lodge is located approximately 185 , miles (about 1 to 1 1/2 hours flight time) southwest of Anchorage in one of Alaska's most scenic regions. It is situated on Six-Mile Lake near Nondalton between Lake Iliamna and Lake Clark.
Fishing Program:
While all five species of Pacific salmon, arctic char, Dolly Varden, and grayling abound in these waters, Newhalen Lodge is always keen to provide their clientele with an unparalleled trophy rainbow fly fishing experience. Daily fly-outs in well-maintained De Haviland Beaver floatplanes take anglers to the stream where they will access the water by raft, jet boat or foot. Newhalen Lodge also has some of Alaska’s most experienced and productive guides.
Fisheries:
Newhalen Lodge fishes all of the premier waters of the greater Iliamna/Katmai region. These waters include Moraine, Battle, and Talarik creeks as well as the Kulik, Kvichak, Copper, Brooks, and American rivers. Additionally Newhalen fishes a number of coastal systems for fresh salmon and one trophy trout fishery that is under private lease.
Non-Angling Activities:
In addition to outstanding fly fishing, Newhalen Lodge offers, at no increase in cost, flight seeing day trips through scenic Katmai National Monument or other awe-inspiring coastal locations. We like to choose the most weather friendly days so you don't miss any photo-perfect scenery. Wildlife photography excursions are another option and may be combined with fishing.
